How to easily make wool pom poms?

To start, choose the colors of your Christmas decoration. Here we wanted warm and colorful shades that go beyond the traditional red and green.

We used balls of pink, turquoise and white wool.

Play with the thickness of the wool, this will give contrast to your pompoms!

To start

Collect cardboard boxes, crates, packaging, boards, etc.

Make sure you use cardboard that is stiff enough but not too thick to be able to cut easily.

Then draw 2 circles the size of the desired pompom. To do this, try to find a template, a storage jar, a bowl... Or draw the circle using a compass.

Inside this circle, draw a new, smaller, centered circle. This circle will be about 2cm in diameter. Here we used an adhesive roller as a template.

Draw 2 lines from the inner circle to the outer circle as shown in the photo opposite.

The mounting technique

Position your 2 templates against each other, making sure the notches line up.

Then start wrapping the wool around the templates, making sure to arrange it properly on the circle as you go.

Roll the yarn until you have enough volume to create a nice, full ball.

The most delicate step!

Now cut a piece of wool about 20cm.

Hold your assembly firmly to prevent the wool from escaping then slide the tip of the scissors between the 2 cardboard templates.

Start cutting the wool… Always hold your work because this is when the wool can escape!

Slide the piece of wool between the templates, going all the way around, then make a tight double knot.

Remove the templates to release the pompom.

How to make a regular wool pompom?

At this stage your pompom Christmas ball is a little disorganized. We will now give you a tip to even out the pompom and give it a beautiful look!

Take your 2 templates and sandwich them on the pompom. Squeeze them tightly between your hands and then cut off any excess wool. This will help even out the pompom.

What to do with wool pom poms?

Your pompom is now finished, all you have to do is show it off!

You can use it as a Christmas ball to place in the tree. For this you can add a wooden bead on the top to add a cozy touch.

These pom poms can also be attached to a cord to form a garland to place on the tree or on a fireplace.

You can also make a warm Christmas wreath!
